Xiaomi opens a research and development center in Europe

This is the first installation of its kind on the Old Continent for the Chinese brand. Based in Finland, this R & D center will be dedicated to smartphone photography.

Xiaomi has opened its first research and development center in Europe, specifically in Tampere, Finland. This site will specialize in the development of technologies for photo sensors of smartphones and more particularly “algorithms, machine learning, signal processing, image and video”. The Chinese manufacturer indicates that this R & D center is the largest outside of its facilities in China. 

” The establishment of this R & D team marks an important step in our international expansion strategy. This addition not only strengthens our overall strategy, but it also allows us to leverage the expertise of local, highly skilled engineering talent to continually improve our products . Xiang Wang, senior vice president of Xiaomi , said in a statement. The Tampere R & D center has more than 20 people and is expected to strengthen further.

Xiaomi currently ranks fourth in the global smartphone market with 9% market share in volume (source: Gartner, 2nd quarter 2019)
