Sony is trying hard to resist the strong competition in the mobility market. The glory days of the Xperia Z range seem a distant memory, but the Japanese manufacturer does not abort. The new Xperia 8 adopts a 21: 9 format, like its big brother the Xperia 10 to name just him.
A classic mid-range
The technical characteristics are classic for a mid-range device. It is equipped with a 6 inch LCD screen (2520 x 1080 pixels) with a Gorilla Glass 6 coating. Under its hood is a Snapdragon SoC 630 supported by 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and a battery of 2,760 mAh. Side connectivity, there is WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB-C, and a mini-jack port.
Aside from its atypical format, Sony does not seem to want to take risks. There is no fingerprint reader under the screen, motorized photo sensor or other eccentricities found in some manufacturers. It is equipped with a dual rear-facing 12MP wide-angle photo sensor, opening at f / 1.6, and 8MP telephoto x2, as well as an 8MP front-facing camera. Finally, it is compatible with fast charging up to 18 watts and has an IPX5 / IPX8 certification for resistance to water and dust.
The introductory price in Japan is 54,000 yen, or about 460 euros. It is offered in white, black, orange and blue, it is not yet known if it will be available in Europe.
